Kulim (Malaysia), 5 February 2026 – Menicon Malaysia, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese contact lens manufacturer Menicon, has officially opened a new production facility in Kulim Hi-Tech Park. With this, the company is strengthening Malaysia’s role as a hub for high-quality medical technology as well as its global production capacity for the rapidly growing daily disposable contact lens market.
The new facility represents Menicon’s most advanced and future-ready production site worldwide, backed by an investment of approximately RM 1 billion (EUR 215 million, as of 6 February 2026). As a fully integrated smart factory, it connects automated production, logistics, warehousing, and quality control within a digitally networked system. This enables large-scale, highly efficient manufacturing of daily disposable lenses and related components using Menicon’s proprietary production technologies.
Koji Kawaura, President and CEO of Menicon Co., Ltd., commented: “With the launch of the plant in Malaysia, we will significantly strengthen our supply capacity to meet the rapidly growing global demand for daily disposable contact lenses. I am confident that this will not only accelerate Menicon’s further growth in global markets, but also help us fulfill our mission to protect the eye health of people around the world.” His remarks underline the important role the new plant will play in Menicon’s future global expansion.
The plant currently employs around 150 people, predominantly from Malaysia, and focuses on targeted training, technical education, and hands-on experience with state-of-the-art automation. These initiatives support Malaysia’s broader agenda to enhance human capital and vocational education, particularly in the field of high-precision medical device manufacturing.
